Laidback and lending a hand at Dogtown ZA

So today I want to talk about a matter that´s very close to my heart; dogs. I´ve had pets since I was a child, cat, dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, fish, even snakes.  I can’t imagine my life without an animal companion.  As much of an animal lover as I am, dogs will always have the most special place in my heart and in my home.

I want to introduce you to an amazing organisation I came across a few years ago, they are called Dogtown SA. They take in and rehabilitate dogs.  This charity is amazing; they have the cutest profiles written from the doggy´s perspective.

  Now the problem with a lot of animal shelters, is that you want to help, but how? Short of donating some food or blankets, what else can you do? Dogtown is different in this aspect; they offer you the option of sponsoring a dog or dogs without having to adopt them. Cause let´s face it, most of us would adopt 20 dogs If we could, but for a lot of us (including me) that simply is not an option. So what do I do instead? I sponsor a doggy. This option is called ´pay for my stay´. I sponsor a dog named Rainbow. She is the most precious little goofball I have ever laid eyes on.

I mean, look at those ears! This sponsorship is great or for new doggies arriving at their centre, it covers a basic veterinary check-up, vaccinations, deworming, and sterilization. And every month I get an update on my doggy. It can be a bit pricey, pay for my costs R500 per dog. It was worth it for me to know that I helped another soul stay safe.

For those of you who can´t afford R500 to sponsor a dog, Dogtown has other great options,  You can ´click to feed´ it is completely free, all you have to do is click the arrow on the designated page, and every click on the arrow icon. Every click contributes to 10% of a bowl of food.  It´s that simple!

Other options include volunteering, buying merchandise and supporting fundraising events.

Every year on Mandela day, you can sponsor a doggy for only R67. Every month I also get a thank you email with a picture of an adorable pupper. It makes me feel so special, knowing that I am making a difference, no matter how small. Like they say;

So in conclusion, this is a great organisation to be a part of, because even the smallest contribution makes a big difference to these dogs.
