Putting Pain in Perspective

This will be a short post. But I just have something I thought I would share.

We all experience hardships in our lives, we all have tough days, especially this year. The thing that makes it a bit more difficult is the fact that we feel guilty about having a bad experience, when other people have it worse than us. I am sure you have all heard the expression “I cried because I had no shoes, then I saw a man who had no feet´´.

Everyone´s pain is valid; you are allowed to feel the way you feel. You are allowed to have an honest reaction to something that upsets you. The thing you need to remember is to put things into perspective. Some people have it better than us, some are off far worse than us, but we all need to remember that even though we all hurt sometimes, we need not lose perspective.

Some people feel guilty about having a reaction to a bad experience; I have read tragic articles about women who feel like they cannot be upset about a cheating boyfriend because they have heard stories about women who have been gang-raped. That is awful. In both cases.

I am sure you can think of many examples in your own life where you have been very upset about something, and as soon as you heard of another more tragic case, you felt guilty for reacting the way you did. There is no need to feel guilty about bad things that happen, feel your feelings and deal with them in the right way.

But do not feel like you do not deserve to ´´complain´´ about something just because someone else is worse off than you.

Just put it in perspective. Be grateful that things are not worse for you. It may sound like a terrible way to view things, but never forget to be thankful for what you have.
